"Twinkle cats" are rescued cats that cannot be homed in the normal way, usually due to ill health, behaviour problems or age.

They live at our farmhouse in Los Estancos, where they can lead an independent life, receiving any necessary medical treatment in addition to having unlimited access to food and shelter (and cuddles).

As a result there is an increased financial responsibility to support them, so we have introduced a 'Sponsorship Scheme' which allows you to sponsor a Twinkle Farmhouse Cat for yourself, or as a gift to a friend / relative.

For a donation of only £12 per year, (or only a £1 per month via a regular Standing Order), you (or your friend) will receive an A4 colour photo of your cat. We will also send you our bi-annual Twinkle reports.

Have a look at each of our cats below and simply click on the photo to go to the application form.

Each paw print indicates a sponsor for the cat.

Ethel.

Female, Born -- Unknown.

A very old girl who came to us during Spring 2007. She was found living in a rubbish bin and already pregnant, however was having respiratory problems and sadly her kittens had to be aborted. After a lot of medical care and love she is now in good health and will live out her life at our farmhouse.

Female, Born 2005.

Found on our trip in April 2007, in a car park in Caleta de Fuste, and though not in poor health she was in need of sterilising. She was at risk of being run over with so many cars around, so we decided to keep her as a farm cat.

As the name suggests jumps all over the garden like a new born lamb. Loves to go for walks along with Molly our dog.

Female, Born 2005.

She came to our farmhouse in 2006 at approx 1 year old, after she was found with 1 surviving kitten (her other kittens were found dead close by). Her and her kitten were in danger and could not be left where they were.

Initially we tried to home Pumpkin but as no home could be found she now lives at our farmhouse. She was a very devoted Mum and has a soft nature.

Female, Born 2006.

During our trip in 2007 she was found by our front gate in a cat basket with no note or any way of knowing where she had come from.

We sterilised her and as we did not know where she had come from we could not release her. So we decided that she had to stay with us. She is very cheeky and now shares herself with us and a few cat friendly neighbours.

Click to Sponsor MaudeMaude

Female, Born 2004.

Maude was brought to us by a local cat lover, because she was concerned as Maude was having breathing problems and was living homeless on a resort.

Since becoming a farm cat her health has improved but unfortunately her condition cannot be cured. She still needs regular visits to the vets for checkups and medication.

Female, Born 2006.

Brought into us by a Spaniard after he found her in a terrible condition. She had broken ribs on both sides and needed to have a bone from her hind back leg removed. She will always walk with a bit of a limp but runs around the garden like a greyhound. She was up for adoption but as nobody has offered to rehome her we are going to keep her with us at the farm.

Female, Born 2006.

Was caught the end of 2006. She had been living in a supermarket warehouse (much to the annoyance of the owners) and was trapped by them and ended up coming to us. She will stay with us at the farm and we love her.

MALES:

As his name suggests is one of the loudest cats we have. When he wants attention he yells until he gets it. Normally all he is after is a cuddle and a chat.

He is a large cat and is so fond of the other cats he charges up to them with such affection and almost knocks them of their feet with a powerful head rub.

Click to Sponsor Lummel

Lümmel

He's a large cat like Loudmouth and has one clouded eye from an old infection that was not treated.

During the day he stays away, enjoying playing in the cactus fields but when he comes at night he loves a cuddle and is quick to spot an empty lap and hops on for a head burying cuddle.

He’s a real gentle giant.

Ryan

Male, Born Nov 2007

He was brought into us during our Nov 07 trip in a bird cage. Just 5 weeks old he had crawled onto someone’s patio late at night and was very sick.

After lots of medication and TLC from Leahn and Sascha he grew stronger and although still a small cat he is bursting with character and loves to join in with what ever you doing. At night he loves to sleep around you neck .

Male, Born 2006.

Came to us with his brother in 2006 at approx 7 months old. They were living rough in the main town of Puerto del Rosario, and were in need of help. Boo is rather shy of people and afraid of dogs (except Molly the dog).

Boo even spent a day and a night on top of an electrical pole after being chased up it by some local dogs. Once he knows you he is so pleased to have a stroke and cuddle and purrs very softly.

Male, Born Oct 2007

Caught by our volunteers during our Nov 07 trip, just 7 weeks old but suffering from malnutrition and cat flu.

He needed a lot of trips to the vet but as you can see he has grown bigger and is now a healthy boy. Although shy when outside he’s real sweetie and loves a cuddle.

Oliver

Male, Born sometime 2006

On the final day of our trip in May 08, volunteers Cat and Linda stopped as they were driving by a house when they saw Oliver. He was living around a house and the woman resident was threatening to kill him if he was not removed. Making an on the spot decision he was brought back to our farmhouse where he will now live.

Not sterilised, he also had an inner ear infection, which makes his head tilt to one side and the vet also discovered he has an air rifle pellet in his left side. He has now been castrated and being treated for the ear infection and he may need to have the pellet removed. He loves his food, it's as if he can’t believe its all his and it's hard to get a photo of him not eating.

Male, Born 2000

Arrived in the garden in November 2002 and was trapped on the patio late at night.

He had been living in the village roaming from house to house annoying everyone because he would spray his scent everywhere.

He is pretty much in charge of the guys of the garden but once he has shown he is the ‘top cat’ he lets new comers join the family.

Male ,Born late 2002.

He arrived in the garden in January 2003. He was very small and underweight. Each day he would only eat 1 or 2 cat biscuits and a small bowl of creamy milk and this he could only manage to eat very slowly.

He was born in a neighbours garden and was the runt of the litter but he had made his way over to our house.

After a very quick but calm sedation he was given a life saving operation by our Twinkle vets and nurses that almost certainly saved his life. He had a very rare condition that meant that his lungs and other vital organs were pushed up into his chest, leaving him with a small pocket in which to use for food and for his lungs to expand when he breathed. It was no wonder that he could not manage a normal appetite or an active life.

He is now a cheeky little cat that loves to chase and play. Then when he’s out played all the other cats he loves to snuggle on the bed for a cuddle

He turned up one night on our patio in 2004. He is a bit allusive and moody around other cats.

He can only be seen now and again but never the less he is every part ‘one of the gang’.

During our Nov 07 trip, Twinkle volunteers Chris & Deb were at a Finca catching cats and found little Robbie, he was suffering from cat flu and very thin. He was too sick to go back to living rough and so after a lot of medication and TLC he now lives with us at the farmhouse.

He very affectionate and sweet natured, another one that loves to cuddle up in bed. His purr is so load it can keep us awake.

Male, Born 2005

So called because he was trapped at midnight on the patio during our trip In April 2006. After he was sterilised and released he kept returning.

This always amazes me. You would think that after being trapped and sterilised these cats would run on their release and never come back – but come back they do.

Ginger Male, Born 2005.

He came to us in September of 2006, he had been living on a small hotel complex where he used to get fed by the bar owner.

Although he needed sterilising, we could not help but notice that he was suffering from an eye complaint. Both of his eye's were very infected and causing him a great deal of pain. He would not (could not) open them.

Initially we treated him with antibiotics for the infection, as he eye's became less swollen we could see that the problem stemmed from his eye lashes, they were growing inwards, which was the cause of the problem. He had surgery to correct this condition and his eyes improved tremendously.

Because he needs monitoring we were unable to release him without someone to look after him, so we will be keeping him as a farm cat, that way we can see to his medical needs and look after him.

Male, Born approximately 2003.

Another who has suffered with an eye complaint that we are trying to treat, it seems he may be allergic to the sunshine!

He also has something wrong with his facial skin the cause maybe an unusual type of cancer. We will have to wait and see.
